Library Workshops: Medical Databases & Information Tools




1. Lexicomp: Drug Information Solutions

Lexicomp is a comprehensive drug information tool for use at the point of care. It contains clinical modules with information about drug interactions, identification, calculations, toxicology, and patient education. In this workshop, you will learn how to find the essential drug information including dosage, mechanisms of action, drug interactions, warnings and precautions, and adverse effects.

2.   Micromedex Solutions: Drug Information Resources

Micromedex Solutions is a quick and in-depth information source of drugs, toxins and natural/herbal products. It provides extensive drug information including ingredients, identification, dosing, clinical applications, pharmacokinetics, cautions, medication safety, and comparative efficacy. 
In this workshop, you will acquire the essential skills for searching drug information, interactions, compatibility, comparison, and using the mobile apps.

3.   UpToDate: Evidence-Based Clinical Decision Tool

UpToDate is an evidence-based, physician-authored clinical decision support database that can provide concise answers to patient care questions in health care professionals’ daily practice.  All topic reviews are written by a recognized faculty of experts who each address a specific clinical issue and provide detailed recommendations. This workshop covers the essential skills for effective use of this practical clinical reference tool.

4.   BMJ Learning Resources: Best Practice, Case Reports and Learning

BMJ Best Practice is point-of-care tool designed to support clinicians in their decision making from diagnosis to treatment; BMJ Case Reports is an online repository of peer-reviewed case reports, providing clinically important information on common and rare conditions of all disciplines; and BMJ Learning features accredited, peer-reviewed learning modules in text and multimedia formats for continuing medical education of doctors and healthcare professionals. This workshop will show you how to enhance your medical education with these learning resources.
